In the name of God - Amen.

I, Aaron Cone of the State of Georgia and County of Bulloch, being infirm in body but in perfect memory, thanks be to God, calling into mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it was appointed for all men to die, I make and ordain this my last will and testament. That is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul unto the honor of Almighty God that gave it and my body to the ground to be buried in a decent and Christian manner and form at the discretion of my friend and Executor, nothing doubting but I shall at the last general resurrection receive it again by the power of Almighty God. And as touching such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me within this life I do give and dispose of in the following manner -

Firstly, I do give and grant unto my son Peter Cone the following tracts of land. One tract surveyed for and granted to Wm. Likewise one Negro boy named Ezekiel, also each one of them one bed a piece. The land and Negro boy Ezekiel which I have given to my grandsons Joseph Cone and William Cone are to be kept for the use of my family until William Cone becomes twenty one years of age for I do not want to have my little grandsons to pay for their board. I wish my grandsons John Goodman, Joseph Cone and William Cone to sent to school whenever a school is within reach from July until March in every year and their tuition paid out of the family funds as long as it does last. Afterward out of their own property.

After then I do intend that they (my Negro man Dick and Mary his wife) shall belong to my son Aaron Cone, likewise the houshold and kitchen furnature to belong to my son Aaron Cone. I wish my son Barber Cone to pay to Mr. George Mikell five dollars - I have paid to him all but the five dollars for finishing the woodwork of a wagon, and when it is finished for Barber Cone to iron it off, afterwards to sell it and to take his pay for the work he does to it out of the money which he gets for it. The overplus of the money to go to the use of my family. I wish my son Barber Cone to sell my mill irons and still to appropriate the money which they fetch for the use of my family. My daughter Sarah Goodman is to have the command of every thing about the house excepts she gets married. My son Aaron Cone must, after Barber leaves the place, try to make support for the family with the hands that are left on the plantation unless he does marry. If he does he is to have the privilege of the little room, and a sufficient quantity of land to tend together with an equal part of the cow-penned land. Also he is to have my mark and brand. If my beloved wife cannot stay with the family I want her to have the sixth part of my stock of cattle left for the support of my family.

Notes for WILLIAM EMANUEL MCELVEEN, JR.:

William served in the 3rd Co., 17th Militia of C.S.A.

William and Betsy had 8 children. After her death, William was working in Augusta in a munitions factory and was blinded by an explosion. His son's widow America Cone McElveen drove a horse and buggy all alone from Stilson, Ga. to care for him. America nursed her father-in-law back to health, however he never fully regained his sight. He acted as a doctor with a license from the Savannah Medical College and practiced as a half blind doctor. William and America married and had 9 children of their own.

William is buried in the McElveen Family Cemetery near Arcola, Ga. The church would not permit him to be buried with America since she was his former daughter-in-law. Talmadge McElveen owned the cemetery at Arcola as last known.

Info as given by Dr. Waldo Emerson Floyd, Jr., 1996 and updated Aug. 1998.

Notes for WILLIAM MALCOM CONE:

Dr. Mac (William Malcolm) Cone left home in 1923 to enter Georgia Tech in Atlanta. Following Ga. Tech, he entered the Podiatry College in Atlanta. His father died in 1927, so it was necessary for him to work during the day to help with expenses at home for five younger brothers and sisters and attend college at night.

After college, Dr. Cone practiced podiatry in Atlanta until World War II. He volunteered for the Medical Corps but was told they did not need doctors. What they needed were engineers. Being a graduate of Georgia Tech, he was sent to Ft. Belvoir, Va. and given a commission of Captain and sent to foreign soil -- Africa, Sicily, and then to Rome, Italy - a city of 2.5 million people with another million refugees and no water. The Germans had destroyed the aqua ducts and power plants. Capt. Cone was given a crew of men and the task of rebuilding the power plants and water lines to furnish water for the front lines. The work was completed in fifteen days ahead of the predicted three months.

Following four years of military duty in Italy, France, Sicily, Germany, North Africa and seven major campaigns, he returned to Atlanta, Ga. In Jan. 1946, he opened his office in the Grand Theater Building and practiced podiatry until his retirement in 1964. He served as president of the Georgia Podiatry Association for several years. He was also Chairman of the Board of Podiatry Examiners during Gov. Ernest Vandiver's term in office.

Notes for FRANCIS DERAUGHTER BENTON:

Frank Benton was a veteran of World War I.

On July 23, 1923, he settled in the Pooler area of Chatham County, Ga. There he started Benton's Dairy on U.S. Highway 80 with his colored helper, Lewis Weaver and nineteen head of cows and one bull with a mortgage on the herd of $1,400 (fourteen hundred dollars).

He owned and operated Benton's Dairy for forty-five years, producing raw milk for a local retail dairy plant - first for Annette's Dairy and later for Starland Dairies, Inc. He was known as the producer of the largest volume of raw milk on the smallest acreage within the five (5) state area of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.

Frank's childhood was a very hard one. His mother and an infant died from measles in September, 1901. His father married a woman whose maiden name was Dinkins. She had nursed the family during illness. In January, 1902, his father, Edward Joy Benton and another son died of pneumonia. At the same time, Frank went into a coma, but came out of it.

When Edward Joy Benton died, the Brantley Company claimed he owed them money. Edward rode timber for the Brantley Company and owned a pretty Victorian-styled one story house with porches in Blackshear, Ga. Dinkins either sold the Blackshear property or gave it to the Brantley Co. and moved to Folkston, Ga to be nearer her family. Frank had always believed the debt was manufactured against his father.

While living in Folkston, Frank played the pump organ for a Methodist Church so he and his younger sister, Gladys could have food and shelter. Dinkins was known to be a mean step-mother and refused to allow Frank to attend school. Instead, she made him work in the fields. After she beat him with a tree root, he left Folkston along with a friend, Emory Dean. Frank's nickname was "Shug".
